TL-30 vs TL-30x6: Which Is Better?

Both ratings mean 30 minutes of certified resistance to tool attacks. That single shared number is where the similarity ends, and it's also why so many buyers get stuck comparing the two.
Here's the difference that actually matters, and how to tell which one is right for you.
What TL-30 Protects
A TL-30 rating means the door of the safe has been tested and certified to resist tool attacks (drilling, prying, punching) for 30 minutes. It's the entry point into true UL-certified, tool-resistant security, and it's the most common choice for small retailers, jewelers, and high-end homeowners.
Legion's TL-30 line uses our patented PolyCeramic Barrier Technology in place of traditional concrete fill, which makes these safes up to 40% lighter than comparable models without giving up any certified protection. That matters more than it sounds: lighter safes are easier and cheaper to deliver, and they open up placement options (upper floors, buildings with elevator weight limits) that heavier safes can't touch.
Insurance coverage on a TL-30 typically reaches up to $300,000.
What TL-30x6 Adds
A TL-30x6 rating means the same 30-minute tool resistance, but on all six sides, not just the door. That distinction exists because experienced burglars don't always attack the door. Back panels, bottoms, and sides are frequently softer targets, and a door-only rating leaves them exposed.
TL-30x6 closes that gap. It's the standard for jewelry stores, pharmacies, financial institutions, and any business holding meaningful inventory or cash on-site. Legion's TL-30x6 line is trusted by the top jewelry brands, and it carries insurance coverage up to $1 million.
Price and Weight
The TL-30x6 costs more than the TL-30, and it weighs more too since there's simply more certified barrier material covering more surface area. Legion's TL-30x6 line runs from 890 to 3,770 lbs, compared to 470 to 2,790 lbs for the TL-30. Both lines use PolyCeramic Barrier Technology, so the weight difference reflects added coverage, not outdated materials.
Which One Is Right for You
Ask yourself one question: what's your realistic attack scenario?
If you're protecting personal valuables, documents, or firearms in a home environment where the safe sits against a wall and isn't a likely target for a sophisticated, patient burglar, a TL-30 delivers real, certified protection at a lower price point.
If you're running a business with inventory, cash, or client-owned valuables on-site, especially anything a professional would consider worth the time to attack from multiple angles, the TL-30x6 is the safer call. The insurance coverage gap ($300K vs. $1M) usually settles the decision on its own once you add up what's actually inside.
